MacGyver was fun to watch. Matty asked them to help a friend, Samantha Cage, who wanted to rescue a Navy Seal who was missing in action. A ransom demand gave the friend hope Diaz was still alive.
I enjoy the beginning of the episodes when they show Mac and Jack in a dangerous situation and one of them gets them out of it. Jack took a lot of punches while Mac made a blade out of a little button and cut the rope that was binding them. Then Jack head butted their captor and they were free. They were in Cuba searching for Murdock. I like the way Jack reminded us of Murdock’s misdeeds. That was better than a “previously on MacGyver” bit.
Mac used a soccer ball and cell phone to get eyes on the target. Then he devised a plan to distract the terrorists while he freed Diaz. It was all very clever, but I did not expect him to cut the entire floor underneath Diaz so his chair would drop through. The dam was supposed to burse sooner but they were successful anyway.
Samantha is a CIA interrogator and formerly with Australian intelligence. After the mission, Samantha was added to the team. Her task is to interrogate the terrorist known as the Ten of Spades (or Clubs). Hypnosis or torture? ***
Samantha (Isabel Lucas) was Anna in “Emerald City”.

This was a fun episode. I don't like the idea of adding Samantha to the team. At least she looks good.
The best thing about Cuba was the cars. The first one was a 1957 Pontiac. Great looking car.
I was surprised to see a 1958 Ford truck in Turkey, though.
It concerned me that Mac destroyed a dam. That would cause a lot of damage and it wasn't necessary.

2.02 Muscle Car & Paper Clips

Riley disappears during her first solo mission; Mac and the team attempt to locate her.

The beginning was exciting. I thought the team had won the fight, but not really. Riley suffered a flashback to when she killed a man and that caused her to hesitate when she should have shot the man on the airplane. The operation was mostly a failure. How did they get off the plane safely?
Jack was very upset about Matty putting Riley on a solo job. His alarm was justified because those were some bloodthirsty hackers. But I was surprised at the way Jack talked to Matty – more than once. I was concerned that he would actually hit Mac when he wanted to take Riley out of the hackers’ lair. Bozer bravely blocked Jack’s exit and I thought he was going to get punched.
Riley was clever and brave throughout her ordeal with the hackers. I enjoyed seeing her improvise. And I enjoyed the emotional scene when Jack released her from the trunk of the car.
I guess the writers thought it was a good idea to make sure Mac used the tools described in the title. He did use a muscle car and paper clip to improvise a pacemaker for the Secretary of Defense.
Samantha is also a valuable asset. She looks a tad strange to me.

It is weird how they don't explain how they get out of whatever crisis is at the beginning of the episode and has nothing to do with the main plot.
Riley was able to handle herself but she pretty much fell apart in the trunk of the car. At least she was able to get out of her situation.
I still don't like Samantha, except to look at. It bothered me that Matty had to replace Jack, but I guess it was justified with his behavior. e nearly messed up the mission.
Mac always impresses us when he comes up with these ideas. There was another show I watched where people mentioned MacGyver, but I can't think what it was right now.
It's always funny when they are able to hear what is going on back at Phoenix.
And Bozer came through for us!

I do not like agents to go undercover because there is so much that can go wrong. Of course, a lot of things went wrong the entire time they were in the casino. I cannot complain though because it was so much fun to see them try to pull off the heist.
I enjoyed seeing Jack’s smooth approach to the security lady starting with “Howdy”. He did not give up until he got what they needed.
Although Samantha was caught in the basement and it was obvious her lies were not fooling security, she remained calm. Later, she demonstrated some excellent fighting skills. I should mention that although Jack considers himself Mac’s bodyguard, Mac does a respectable job of picking up anything nearby to bash the assailants. I enjoy seeing that.
Mac hooked himself to the elevator car and later used suction cups to crawl from the 49th to the 50th floor. He deserves hazard pay. He cleverly used roulette wheels and wire to create an explosive to dislodge a piece of the safe's door, then he tossed the bomb inside the bomb-proof safe. It blew up a lot of money, but people were safe. I agree with Jack, but Mac would not let him take any of the money.
I was glad Bozer and Riley stayed with the computers instead of being in harm’s way.
I enjoyed seeing them winding down by having a roof-top cookout afterwards.

There was another show or a movie where the characters had to do what MacGyver does to get out of their mess. I don't remember which one.
That was an amazing plan they had to get Samantha into the vault, but then they forgot one thing.
Oh, yeah, it was fun to see them try to pull of the heist. I liked seeing Jack try to be smooth. he's not too bright, though. I believed 500 meant $500,000 and of course he didn't figure that out.
You have to admire Mac's stuntman. And when he did whatever he did when he got to the 50th floor, it could have knocked him off the building. I realized when they needed to blow up that bomb that the comment had been made that the vault would protect what was in it from a nuclear explosion, which of course meant it would contain the explosion. I was concerned about radiation possibly getting out through that narrow space when they closed the door. The less space for radiation to leak through, the harder it would be to close that door.
And when they talked about the size of the bomb, someone should have really compared it to the one at Hiroshima.
Samantha looked hot in her dress and she's not much for personality, but she can fight.
I too was glad Bozer and Riley were in a safe place.
The woman who ran the casino wasn't exactly grateful for what the team did. I liked the music at the end at the cookout.

You reminded me of a comment I meant to make about the woman who ran the casino. I do not know why, but I thought she was one of the villains. But she was just doing her job and had nothing to do with the bomb.

Murdock is back and I still dislike him. He is creepy and psychotic. He kidnaped MacGyver and I thought we were going to spend most of the episode watching him torment Mac. 23 minutes in, there was a reprieve.
Why is Murdock smarter than the entire Phoenix team? They can track people around the world, but they cannot track Murdock when he is five feet away.
In spite of that, I think it was a good episode and I enjoyed it. There were several unexpected scenes that made the episode very interesting.
Next week, they will have a spooky episode.

Was this the show where someone said, "Shmoopy"? I can't remember if it was this or another show. That sounds like something Beverly Goldberg would call one of her children.
That was impressive how Mac could do all that while under the influence. And he could remember it all too. That was some good detective work.
Those of us with DVRs don't need to know this but the episode airs an hour late. I suppose I must watch this Michael Jackson special.

This is my favorite Halloween episode so far, but I have not watched all of my shows yet.
The prank on Bozer was funny and Jack’s real corpse story was outrageous. But it sounded like something a fraternity would do.
The scene on the airplane was exciting even though Jack and Mac were not involved.
When Jack fell into a hole about 980 feet down, that was scary, but I still laughed when he screamed.
Mac rigged a thermal imaging device.
Jack’s antics about the Bermuda Triangle were very funny. My favorite line was, “Oh great and powerful spirits of the Triangle, thank you for protecting me." Both Mac and I had a good laugh over that one.
I learned some things about the team: Mac is afraid of heights, which makes his climb up an outside wall 49 stories off the ground even more remarkable.
Samantha is afraid of drowning.
Jack is superstitious.
Matty blackmails people to get what she wants.
The Phoenix haunted house and costumes were great.
I recognized the nod to several shows and movies:
“Stranger Things” - When jack said if the plane went down in the Bermuda Triangle, the people are in the “Upside Down”.
“Criminal Minds” – When Matty said “Wheels up in 20”
“Ghost Busters”
“The Conjuring”
“Blair Witch”
“Scream” –if that is the movie where “The call is coming from inside the house.”

Not only was Mac in the Michael Jackson special, but Jack was his father. I had to go back when I saw him in the credits. Sometimes he sounds like Jack and sometimes he doesn't.
Mac doesn't seem like he would be afraid of anything. It seems strange to think of someone as tough as Jack being afraid.
Samantha looked genuinely afraid when she was trapped, and I was surprised she would tell Mac after what she said.
I don't see how Jack fell all that way and didn't get hurt. They could have had him land on a mattress or something.
It was funny when Mac answered an old fashioned phone.
I noticed a sign on one wall saying a meeting was in progress looked quite modern.
It's amazing they couldn't communicate from that base until Riley got through.
I don't even remember any of the Halloween stuff at this point. I just remember it happened.

2.06 Jet Engine & Pickup Truck

Mac and the team attempt to extinguish a massive oil wellhead fire set by a rebel group in Nigeria.

In spite of the violent circumstances, this was a feel-good story and I enjoyed it. Matty once again sent the Phoenix team on a mission worthy of the Scorpion team. They needed to snuff an oil fire that was set by rebels while the rebels were guarding the area.
When the team arrived, they were met by people dressed like rebels, but they were residents of the area who refused to leave. Matty told Bozer and Riley to move away from village area because it was too close to the danger zone. They disobeyed and remained to use one of Mac’s solutions to put out the small fires that kept popping up.
Mac, Jack and Samantha experienced a lot of excitement when they tried to steal an airplane. They stole an engine and they were chased and shot at until they got away. But the excitement did not stop there. On their way to the fire, they were chased by more rebels. I enjoyed seeing Mac use his skills to create stuff when their original plans did not work out.
While Matty was concerned about the big picture, the team’s efforts saved the small village and the village’s families were reunited. That was very nice.
We also saw Mac talk to the little girl he met in a previous episode. He was telling her stories about fathers.

Another exciting storyline, and yes, Team Scorpion could have been there.
It's amazing that when Mac has to be where he will get shot, no one shoots at him.
As much as I disliked Samantha to begin with, she sure was valuable here.
Mac is so good with kids.
I had to admire the team's commitment to help the village stay where it was.
When the fire was finally put out ... well, that was ridiculous. It couldn't possibly have happened. But this is TV and they needed a miracle.

I am laughing so hard at this, but I really do agree that it was ridiculous. I have become comfortable with the unrealistic solutions. And Mac must have an invisible bullet-proof shield surrounding him when the bullets are whizzing by.

Duct Tape & Jack
As usual, I loved the opening scene with Mac and Jack hanging from a tree. It was funny when they gave the Tarzan yell and swung across the forest. I know that was an impractical escape, and I appreciate they do not try to explain any of that.
Their rescue mission was dangerous, but not as harrowing as last week. They had more control over the situation. When I saw the title of the episode, I did not know that meant Jack Dalton was going to be a physical part of the solution. Mac’s plan on how to keep the heart pumping was strange and seemed dangerous to me because I thought the heart had to be kept at a controlled temperature. But all’s well that ends well.
Jack was very upset over the loss of his father’s dog tags, and I am glad Bozer and Jill were able to solve the crime. Bozer was very nice to Tommy.
I am not clear on why Jill was hired or pulled in to help the team.

I want to know what their Tarzan vine was hanging from.
I don't blame Jack for being upset at losing the dog tags. There was more stuff in that box that probably meant a lot. This was their way to honor veterans. I as impressed by how Bozer handled the situation and I liked how Mac helped him not become like Tommy.
That surgeon was hot. Plus she sure wasn't dressed like a surgeon. I guess Alex on "Saving Hope" has also worn outfits like that, and we certainly don't question her credentials because of her looks.
They did manage to make the problems appear impossible to solve, but as usual, somehow they found a way. I wonder about the science. I know people have criticized the science on "Scorpion" but I've never heard about how people feel about this show.

Packing Peanuts...
Jack was super silly and Bozer was excellent agent material in this episode. I think Bozer is drawn to pretty ladies. He tripped over his own feet because he was staring at his classmate. That was a very important spy ring he discovered. I wanted to see his instructor’s reaction when she learned what he had accomplished. She probably thought he would wash out of the class.
The art theft was not believable, but it gave Jack several opportunities to be a comedian.
I wonder what role Riley’s father will play in future episodes, other than rub Jack the wrong way.

I forgot to mention this last week. Jack like "Moonlighting". I would have thought that was a chick show, but it's where I first discovered Bruce Willis and he was such a smart aleck in that show. Jack would like that character.
It was hard to believe that Bozer was going to get through that class when he was late and otherwise doing things he wasn't supposed to, but if he kept them from being discovered, they pretty much have to let him pass.
I was amazed they just rolled up the painting without some sort of protection.
Jack just couldn't stop touching stuff and setting off alarms. And he didn't understand a chair could be art. I've known this for a long time.
