Just read Jared's article, I found the stuff that he had to say interesting and the upcoming episode stuff regarding Dean and Castiel sounds really cool. I'm a little pessimistic I have to say. On one hand, I'm totally STOKED for all the juicy Sam stuff that is on the way, but I so badly wanted to see some Cas/Sam ground breaking. It sounds like Sam is going to be sitting in the corner talking to himself while Dean struggles with Cas's return. I wanted some interaction between Sam and Cas. It's so badly needed. As far as Dean's trust issues..ugh. I'm wondering, will he be glad Cas is alive or will he be like "great..more crap on my plate." To make matters worse, what is all of this Cas is not really Cas but still has great powers fuckery? Are they going the amnesia route where Cas won't remember the boys? I suppose that makes an easy exit for the character. If he doesn't really remember Dean and Sam, there's really no reason for him to hang around. Although I have to wonder, if Cas has amnesia but still remains an angel, why would he stay in his vessel?

Becuase there's only a certain amount of people that Castiel is able to vessel, so if Cas was coming to earth, he'd need his Jimmy suit or wear Claire and it's obvious that he likes his Jimmy suit.
I have a feeling that the "closure" that we're going to get regarding Cas and the boys is either:
a) Cas gets killed AGAIN, but this time he's given a more fitting death and achieves redemption to Dean somehow.
b) Dean is forced into a position where he has to use Castiel in some way to seal the Leviathans back in Purgatory and therefore lock Castiel in Purgatory with the Leviathan for all eternity.
c) At the end of Castiel's arc, Cas wipes all knowledge and memories of everything to do with the angels from Sam and Dean's mind and gives them false memories to match up with their current circumstances.
d) Cas is redeemed, says goodbye, and goes back up to Heaven where his memories of Sam and Dean are erased. Therefore he becomes an obedient soldier of God again, just the same way he started.
As much as I love and adore Castiel, I just don't see a way for him to survive/exist beyond this Season.

Which one?
Cas's memories being wiped clean of the boys or the boys' minds being wiped free of the angels?

You and me both, Aeryn! My current favorite theory is gleaned from all the bits and pieces from what we know + adding in external facts I've been noticing. I took all the pieces, laid them out like a puzzle, and have been moving them around in an attempt to come up with a plausible return scene/scenario. So here's what I've come up with so far: Robert Singer: Cas returns, but in a form we haven't seen yet Sam goes crazy in 7.17 Finding Cas is a "twist of fate" Jared: Cas returns and isn't same Cas we knew and loved Sam in an asylum - same ep as Cas return (? pretty sure I read this in one of Jared's recent posted interviews) EK in production offices Tweet of pic of reservoir Misha: Cas comes back sans-undergarments Cas different from before Canon: Cas's vessel dissolves into reservoir (or at least, Levis explode out of him) Cas went through serious physical/emotional/psychic trauma due to Levi possession Conversations from DVD Commentary: EK, RS and BE during "The End" Theory: Cas has amnesia; Cas suffering great mental/emotional trauma _____________ Cas is in an psychiatric unit after being found wandering naked and without memories, in a hospital gown (sans-undergarments) & Dean finds him there while trying to get help for Sam/rescue Sam from being involuntarily committed. <Missouri might be brought in to try to reach into Sam's head and bring him back.><Old friend might not be Missouri, but retired Hunter from "Sam, Interrupted", this is the psych hospital Sam ends up in> Dean faces moral dilemma of whether to try to force amnesiac Cas to remember who he is and all the horrors he went through. And quite possibly (adding in the discussion of EK, BE and RS in "The End", current interview comments from RS & Eric sighting), Cas is insane, crouched in a corner, squishing a bug and then bringing it back to life, over and over. If the hospital is indeed the same one with the retired Hunter dude, then maybe he twigged to the odd new memory-less patient and strange things that happen around him (Jared's comment that Cas still has at least some of his angel mojo) and so Sam & Dean being there might be the opportunity for this "twist of fate" encounter. In the effort to get Sam help/rescue Sam from institutionalization, Dean visits with Retired Hunter Dude and Dude says something like: "Oh, hey, BTW: while you're here, see that guy sitting in the corner by himself, staring at nothing and rocking back and forth? He came in naked and brain-scrambled, can't remember anything but he seems to be something that fits our line of work, maybe you should check him out? He can bring bugs back to life, maybe he'd be useful against the Levis." And Dean walks over to get a look and OMC it's Cas! That's all I got so far. But Jared's recent interview filled in an important corner piece in my theory puzzle: that Sam is in a psych hospital the same ep as Cas's return. Thanks, Jared!

I've heard the bug being squashed thing a few times now. Is this something actually mentioned int he commentary? I didn't hear The End's commentary, so just curious. And your idea is actually right along the lines that I've been thinking, just more fleshed out. *ponders* 'Without his undergarments' could be another way of saying 'sans marbles'. Along with the obvious hospital gown theory or Cas coming out of the water naked.

Seriously.. would it be too much to ask to just have Cas become human and go retire to some tropical island??? Cause at this point it'd be a LOT less overdone then 'Oh my god, they killed Cas! You bastards!' and 'Lets wipe his mind.' SG spends so much time trying not to be redundant that she's redundant as hell (literally. Considering this show has overused the theme), and she's DEPRESSING. We know she's always going to opt for whatever options cause the most pain and 'drama'. Sure, their lives aren't all rainbows and sunshine, but does /every/ damn thing have to end badly?

Yes, EK, RS and BE are all about the crazy-in-a-corner squashing a bug/bringing it back to life initial plans for TheEnd!Cas. Or rather, EK and BE are, Singer is just sitting back and letting them go. ;D You really MUST listen to the commentary for that episode! Aside from what I think is a long-hoped for opportunity to execute the idea they were proposing finally being able to become possible, the entire track is just so damn funny! The three of them together - Especially when you hear Eric and Ben talking about how to work out the bugs of Dean's time travel....OMC so funny. Time is like a bus! ;D

So much about this season not being as enjoying as the other seasons is how depressed these characters are. As much as we enjoy the actors performing these different emotions, there does come a time when it becomes to much and does become redundant. I think season 6 was probably slightly better was because Eric was still more involved than he is in this season. This season I think is all SERA. I enjoy her writing, but her direction is a big NO NO. There isn't much mystery, or bang, or real story line writing this season than all the other 6 seasons. It's a little sad.

Some random thoughts about Castiel...
Roses are red Violets are blue But not as blue as the eyes of Castiel
Roses are red Violets are blue But not as blue as the fans of Castiel if they kill him again
Roses are red Violets are blue Much bluer than that murky lake that took Castiel

Nice poetry AA I totally support poetry in the CFC. But I'd add a line that some Cas fans are red with anger. Here's my verse... ;D Roses are red Violets are blue SPN fans are bored when S7 was supposed to be "new" Also, I'm with Aeryn, Cahtie, and anyone else who thinks that permanent mind wipe would suck. Dramatically, that's as satisfying as finding out the whole story was a dream, and not real.

This is hilarious, even funnier than the muff muff. But Misha was perfect for the muff because he absolutely has no shame. You're right about seeing red if we get a lazy cop-out regarding Castiel. I get irritated when I watch a really scary or dramatic scene and it turns out to be a dream. Erasing anything that we have suffered though would be a disappointment. Hope they move the story forward.

But knowing this writing crew, Bobby would be brought back as a turnip, and Dean would angst about how to make Bobby human. Plus griping at Cas, and blaming Cas for Bobby. I'm sure that something will be seriously wrong with Cas when he's brought back. I can only hope that SPN's writers with have more sensitivity than they showed with the Becky episode. I'm just a bucket of sunshine. ;D

If he does have amnesia..I hope it's not comic relief amnesia where Cas thinks he's an astronaut wizard or something. Or maybe we'll have Cas kissing Dean's boots begging to be forgiven while Dean has a man period and angsts some more. Clearly I'm a Debbie Downer too! haha. I just don't trust the writers anymore. I'm terrified that I'm going to wish they hadn't brought him back at all!
