Destiel Haters Harassing/Sending Tweets

Okay, so getting the full background on this makes the post not as bad as I first thought.

However - whoever the twitter person was, they could have handled and presented themselves better instead of coming off as some rageaholic. YELLING at someone doesn't usually get you your way. That person is lucky Kim took it as well as she did. If it had been me, I wouldn't have even responded to that childish rant.

That's all I have to say about it.

Regardless though, if you ask me, there's still no sense in tweeters/posters going off and bugging the cast/crew about it. Who gives a shit? It's just a stupid, online poll that contains no relevance to the show whatsoever. Leave the cast/crew alone about it. That's just my stance. Even with the full conversation, it still seems obnoxious and bothersome on both sides of the spectrum, IMO.

I think she sounded extremely greatful to be explained this piece of information. Infact the morons that post over and over and over for a piece of crap poll just because of some FAKE ship that should be kept in house, like very in house should be the ones embarrassed.

Although embarrassment isn't probably one of the emotions these people have.

Maybe some people just aren't easily embarrassed or aren't so sensitive and actually have skin thick enough not to get embarrassed by every tiny little thing that flies around on the net where people make fun of what they enjoy. Maybe some are actually intelligent enough to brush it off and not chuck a spaz or overly hate something that's fictional, just sayin'!

1) I looked up the twitter exchange and I think calling it harassment is a massive exaggeration. For one thing, only part of the conversation has been relayed here.

It started, apparently, with Kim Rhodes retweeting

That was followed by this conversation:

Leaving out the rest of the conversation is misleading. I know I was mislead by it. Leaving out the rest of the conversation covers up the fact that (a) this wasn't unprovoked badgering and was in response to a specific tweet, (b) that Kim Rhodes responses were less likely out of outrage (which is what it seemed like from the snippet) and more likely from confusion, and (c) that it was peacefully resolved.

I'm not saying anything about the larger discussion about the tact, or lack thereof, of this post or for that matter the poll itself. To paraphrase Leo McGarry, the length of that conversation far exceeds my interest in it. But let's at least represent all parties honestly.


2) Regarding accountability for what you post off-site, I think either way works, but we need to be consistent. On CWL, as far as I know, it was seen as in bad form. What people post elsewhere was their business. But if you want to go with something different on this site, I see nothing wrong with it and I can roll with that too.

3) Given all the fuss made about how slash is in response to the lack of genuine gay couples on screen, I find it funny that the (from what I understand) only canon gay pairing is losing badly to the (from what I understand) two non-canon pairings. I'd say this casts serious doubt on the argument that slash exists to compensate for ingrained homophobia in media.

4) I don't know what faberry is but it sounds like the next health craze. Acai berry, gogi berry, faberry.

5) Rape analogies need their own Godwin's law. You bring up rape, you automatically forfeit the argument.

I'll admit..I only saw the snips that I posted and perhaps should have looked to see if there was more to the conversation. Thank you for the clarity. I did think the tweet to Kim was totally unprovoked, but now I see that it was in response to a retweet.

That being said, I still think the tone is unnecessary. Obviously Kim wasn't quite sure what she was retweeting. I think the tweeter could have informed her of what it was while exercising better sense in how she phrased it.

I'm pleased to see that it was resolved peacefully too. Having the whole story makes me feel less angry than I was when I originally saw it, but I still feel like it was wrong...and rude..but NOT unprovoked harassment as I originally thought. I apologize for reposting something that was viewed as misleading. I should have made sure that I had the entire story before sharing it here.

If you ask me, something like that isn't offensive to Jensen. Now, when you have people who take Jared and Jensen (real life people here) and start shipping THEM together and refer to their wives (Genevieve and Danneel) as "beard wives" or "fake wives" if you prefer, that's when it crosses the line and becomes offensive, because now you're basically disrespecting not only these real life people, but their wives as well. And it happens more often than not, but shipping fictional characters on a TV show whether it be slash pairings or not, isn't offensive to the actors by any means. What's offensive is when you start tweeting them and tell them to "respect Jensen" regardless if you're responding to a retweet or not.

When a character or your character or you are obviously NOT gay of course its offensive to be called something that you have to defend when and say no too when it should be common knowledge.

Why should Jensen have to say...no no Its not what its about, no I'm not gay. Why even go there, why get him to do that at all, thats offensive.

Being accused of something your not and puts you in a position to deny it is awkward to say the least.

Its fictional, why can't it just be kept there. Destiel fans see a chance of making it canon.....this is what their after.

I agree. I doubt Jensen would give a hoot that Kim retweeted a poll in favor of Destiel. It's a SPN fandom thing. They know what goes on out there. I don't think it's fair to suggest to Kim that she's being viewed as someone who is pushing gay love on Jensen against his will for retweeting a poll unintentionally. Point is, all ships are non canon more or less. The soon as it becomes canon - there is no reason to ship it (as I understand the term anyway).

Let's for arguments sake say it was Dean/Bela that was up for the poll. Would there be this huge animosity against it? Hell no!
Was there more sexual tension between them than the Cas & Dean thing? Yes of course there was. But shippings aren't scaled on how close to the canon they could be.

I don't say you are homophobic, I do believe you simply have such a big dislike for Cas you take offense to that alone.

As I state though, I do think the majority of the hate seems to stem from the fact it's a gay shipping. Mags certainly shows how she looks at the gay factor in her tweet above.

Would Jensen be offended that it was a gay coupling? I can't ever imagine he would be. In fact, I'd think he would feel a lot more humour about "explaining" that, to the audience, compared to having to explain any chemistry imaginary or otherwise to a sexy co-actress that was never supposed to be a love interest. I know which I'd prefer my girlfriend to watch/read about - the one that didn't involve the threat of couch sleeping for a day or two!

Now as for the matter of an actor responding to any form of shipping, because it won a stupid poll. That I 100% agree with you about. It's a fan thing and why they want the actors to take an opinion on it is beyond me.
I think Jensen wouldn't know what to say, probably neither would Misha, when a mic is stuck in their face and asked about any sort of relationship their characters could have had.
