It's so sad to post this directly below the post for the end of the season 7 hellati, but here we are.....summer hellatus begins. How are you all going to cope for the next 4 1/2 months? I speculating endlessly in my mind about what Sam is going to do. How will Dean survive Purgatory? How much time will have passed when season 8 begins? Immediately following 7.23 or will some time have passed. One big thought I have and I hope it comes true: Frank turns up alive to help Sam retrieve Dean (and maybe Cas) from Purgatory. Or Frank just turns up alive. That would be great since we've seen Ghost Bobby flamed out of the series. Thoughts?

Does this summer hellatus ALREADY seem long? Maybe it's just me... I guess I am just so looking forward to season 8 and a new hand at the helm of the show, and that anticipation is making hellatus even harder to bear. Plus, there was such a great cliffhanger, I can't stop thinking about the possibilities for stories. Of course, that depends on whether or not the writers are going to explore Purgatory or just blast Dean and Castiel out, reunite with Sam and go on their merry monster killing ways. I'm probably missing something. Help fill in the blanks, please.

SoCal, I agree this summer hellatus is going to last forever, probably because we have such high hopes for S8 with the new showrunner in charge. I don't want them to drag out the Purgatory story too long, but I don't want a 1-2 fix-it episode either.
I want to see how Dean and Cas survive in Purgatory and I want to see how Sam copes and can motivate himself to keep working toward working /getting his brother back.
But Please do not bring Garth back EVER! can't stand the character and not a fan of the actor either. Come on S8 writers let's see what you can do! Except for Adam Glass make him go away.

November, I agree with you. The only way I would watch an episode with Garth in it is if the boys are salting and burning his scrawny body. I have NO idea why the actor is so popular.....he is about as appealing as an amoeba and that may be a slight to amoebas.

SoCal, Exactly! Garth sucks! How Garth got thrown threw a wall in the episode with all the drinking and wasn't hurt at all is beyond me. That little 110 lb body would have had some broken bones somewhere.
The only way I want to ever see him on SPN again is if the boys need a sacrifice and Garth is elected to be it, then they can kill him and then salt and burn him and that stupid idiotic sock puppet.
I actually cringed when that scene came on, I though if someone had just tuned in for the first time, they would think what a stupid show SPN is and never give it a chance again. SPN writers we need to keep and grow an audience, not make them run screaming.

I think I had blocked that sock puppet scene out of my memory until you mentioned it!!!!! Argh!! Your Garth as sacrifice idea is great. Maybe the writers will get Dean out of Purgatory by Sam exchanging him for Garth. Then the Purgatory monsters can have him for a snack.

I'm sorry I traumatized you by mentioning the horrid "thing" again. I am all for any storyline that rids us of the Garth character.

Ha! I promise not to mention the G-word again! I'm hoping the writers won't either!!

I guess the G-word should remain in Memphis for Memphis Beat if the show ever returns. *hmmm...maybe we should make "You've been G...thed" the next tag line for Supernatural*
I am thinking about coping by watching a marathon of episodes. I have S1-S6. In previous years, people obsessed over when the DVDs for the latest season would be coming out. No one seems to care about S7 DVDs. I know I will not buy S7.

I'll probably break down and buy them since I have seasons 1-6. At least we get to watch commentary and deleted scenes. That's always fun. Plus we don't HAVE to watch the crappy episodes.

True. I would miss the commentaries and deleted scenes. Plus, if I do not buy the set, I would need to keep all the episodes on my DVR forever. That would be a nuisance. SPN is the only series that I retain every episode until I buy the DVDs. During Hellatus, I am watching some summer programs that I enjoy: Burn Notice Royal Pains Necessary Roughness So You Think You Can Dance Master Chef with Gordon Ramsey (cooks compete to become a master chef; when the show's first season aired last year, no one in America had earned that title) I do not enjoy cooking, but even I learn something about food from watching that show. It is very important to know that the next time you cook lamb that you should not use bananas as part of the recipe.

Ha! I do the same thing. I record every episode and keep them until the dvds come out. Were we separated at birth?? I like Burn Notice, Leverage, Falling Skies, The Walking Dead and White Collar. It's good to have some new shows to watch during the lazy summer days. Otherwise I'd be doing this to excess:

I am working on a S7 re watch for the second time, I am trying to give the episodes I only watched once or twice a chance to see if I like them any better. So far it's mixed. I have all 6 seasons on DVDs and even though S7 wasn't the best I will buy it when it comes out. I don't want to break up the set and I can watch my favorites over and over, plus there's the gag reel. I think after the S7 re watch I may start the whole series over and see how things flow together from season to season. I will have plenty of time. This summer I will watch the Closer, Leverage and I have just started Longmire. So far it is ok, the jury is still out on it.

Oh yes, I watched the first two episodes of Longmire. Like you, I haven't yet made a decision about whether or not it's goint to be worth it. I'll give it a couple of more episodes.

November and SoCal, when I saw these posts, I paused the show I was watching to make sure I was not missing new episodes of Leverage or White Collar. We certainly like the same shows. I looked up Longmire, but there was no detail on what the show is about. I have always like Lou Diamond Phillips. Is it a police show?
The squirrel gallery is very entertaining.

I don't know lots of stuff about it, but from the first 2 episodes I gleaned that it's about an older widowed sheriff in rural Wyoming. He has a male deputy who's running against him for sheriff in the next election and a female deputy (played by Katie Sackoff).
We just found out that his daughter is seeing the deputy running against him.
LDP plays a native American bar tender. Not sure if he doesn't own the whole bar/restaurant.
They're being very slow in letting us get to know the main characters. I'm willing to give it a chance. I believe it's on A&E. Not sure of the day and time.

Thanks. I plan to tune in to see if it holds my attention. It might depend on if LDP aged gracefully. You have me thinking about which episodes I will rewatch when the DVDs come out on September 18. Do you like the cover?

He looks pretty good. They have him doing some fake "indian" speech....."I do not know."...I will not.." You know, no contractions. A little silly. I have no idea if NA's speak that way. I suspect not. As for the season 7 dvd cover, I saw that earlier, somewhere. But always love seeing good pics of the boys: Yup, that makes me happy!

I will give Longmire a chance, since i like LDP also, although I am still miffed at A&E for cancelling Breakout Kings after 2 seasons. I think the reason I don't watch a lot of new programming anymore is because I hate getting attached to a show and then it gets canceled.

I reserve the option to change my mind, but I have arranged the episodes according to the ones I wll watch most frequently. I like Bobby and it is difficult for me to enjoy him being hurt and dying.
Meet The New Boss Hello, Cruel World The Born-Again Identity Reading Is Fundamental There Will Be Blood Survival of The Fittest Slash Fiction Defending Your Life The Girl With The Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo Time After Time (Elliot Ness) Shut Up Dr. Phil The Mentalists Out With The Old How To Win Friends and Influence Monsters Death’s Door Of Grave Importance Adventures in Babysitting
Unlikely to watch again The Girl Next Door Season 7: Time For A Wedding The Slice Girls Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie Repo Man Party On, Garth

Other than that, pretty disappointing.

The main thing I liked was knowing there was a way to put the Leviathans out of action. I need to watch it again because I think I missed some interesting action by not paying close attention. I never rewatched it.

You know, I hope in season 8, they get away from the cutsie-pie episode names. While it was fun the first few times, it's gotten a little silly. Sometimes I think they come up with the episode name first and then try to write a story to match it. At least that's how I feel about some of the lesser episodes. I could be wrong.

I am glad you mentioned this. During the early seasons, they used titles from songs that were appropriate to the episodes. I must admit it took me a while to learn that significance, but it made sense. When they use the cutesy titles, the shows are just fluff. When the shows are fluff, I want to be rolling on the floor with laughter. If I am not laughing, then I wonder if I missed a major plot line that they inserted somewhere along the way. That's why I keep thinking I missed something in SUDP, but I could not bring myself to rewatch it.

Compare the season 7 title list to season 1.
Pilot Wendigo Dead in the Water Phantom Traveler Bloody Mary Skin Hookman Bugs Home Asylum Scarecrow Faith Route 666 Nightmare The Benders Shadow Hell House Something Wicked Provenance Dead Man's Blood Salvation Devil's Trap
Is it any wonder we're unhappy with the show's direction? These episode titles are SO much better and (except for Route 666 and Bugs) much more satisfying than season 7 episodes.
Please the the new showrunner return to the best of the show's roots. Please.

Yes, the titles certainly were more along the lines of a show about the supernatural than, let's say, 'Shut Up, Dr. Phil'. Actually, the title 'Route 666' was appropriate, but as far as content...

Oh, yes, I meant that I didn't enjoy Route 666 or Bugs. Sorry for not being more clear. Oops. Even though those two episode snuck up the room, their titles were far and above....Reading is Fundamental. Sheesh. "Missed it by THAT much!"

Please let it be better that season 7....PUUUULLLLEASE!

Yes! Please let S8 be much better than S7! We have a potentially huge storyline with Purgatory, and I want to see it played out.I have hope for SPN, I have hope that JC can fix this mess that SG left us with. I want to see Sam and Dean grow and see how they are handling things. The boys are really good actors and even they couldn't do a lot with S7. I was watching the episode where you could only see the spirit if you were drunk and just listening to do the dialog was rough, I don't know how J2 managed to say it, and yes it was written by Adam Glass.
