The scenery is really pretty for this movie though! The scenery is gorgeous; I have been noticing that. It really does look like New England!

I can't read any spoilers! But that was a daring rescue. John has forgiven his father.

I think in this case the deer is an omen representing Simon's spiritual destiny.

I think in this case the deer is an omen representing Simon's spiritual destiny. Reminds of my daddy and how he loved eagles and in my poem "I am going to miss you" i called him a daddy eagle in it!

They played heroic music when Joe was watching the deer so I knew that was significant.
The armadillo is guarding Simon's grave. That is so special. Jim Carrey looked like a nice daddy and he named his son Simon.
Excellent movie.

It was a nice touch having that armadillo and the son being named after his best friend who was more like a brother than a friend!

I just want to take a moment to say there was nothing wrong with the movie site. I was clicking the wrong button and using a slow computer. When I switched computers and followed MisterMoonlight's suggestions, I had no problem at all.
Thank you again.

Of course we know the real prayer for Owen Meany--not the line from Shakespeare used in the film, but "O God--please give him back!I shall keep asking You."
And that he did appear to John two more times after dying.

John/Joe with Simon/Owen had a deep strong bond and I think a lot of people misunderstood them but I think that is why they remained so close and never let anything stand in their way!

Their bond was so strong that years later Joe was still visiting the grave and bringing his son with him.
I bet "Joe" does say the real prayer and perhaps Simon visits him at times.

My fault for not giving clearer instructions about how to start the movie earlier. I think this is a case where it's definitely better to read the book first before seeing the movie--you know the parts that were left out. But I guess if you'd tried to make a movie out of the whole thing it would have been 8 hours long. I do regret not getting to see Hester, though.

I know that sometimes when I visit my father's resting spot I can sometimes picture him still here and alive and well, perhaps that is how Joe/John felt about Simon/Owen

Hester would have been a very colorful character. It would have been complicated to create some of the most dynamic scenes like the statue and the dummy and the movie would have been extremely long. I think Simon grabbing the boobs and pulling Mary into the cradle trumps the erection.

I've been lucky enough to have two friendships like Owen and John had in my life, and one of them, Chris, died a few years ago, so that prayer resonates with me. I'd give anything to have just 5 more minutes with him. I think of him and miss him almost every day.

We talk about our departed family members all the time as if they are still with us.

The closest friendships I have had to Owen/Simon and John/Joe are with all of you! I have a few friends offline but none quite like the one depicted in the book and movie!

I always wanted a close friendship like you speak of and I think that is why I cry when I watch movies like Simon Birch and "Beaches". I almost drowned in tears when I watched "Beaches".
