I like to think that the guys will be alright, because good always prevails, right? ...plus they have Kojack with them. But I still worry about them. I love these stories that make you happy or sad or worried for the characters in the stories. I think that's a sign of a well-written story. Me too. And it definitely worked its magic on me. These are characters I care about and will never forget.

And Larry with his heart stopping line Ah man I feel like this is the end of everything I think that's my favorite line in this short chapter. It gives you the feeling that they know they're going up against impossible odds. Especially doing it the way MA told them to do it: on foot, carrying nothing with them.

When an author creates characters that grab your heart and take you along their journey with them that's when you know you haven't just picked up another book but that you are embarking on a journey that will press upon you the same emotions the characters are feeling and in the end when you have finished the book you won't look back at it as just another story you read but instead as an adventure you lived through and with friends as well because at that point the characters are no longer fictional but instead are as real as anyone else

I've never heard it put better. I just might have to steal that line at some point. I've just started reading a dissertation on this book titled "Standing Up With The King: A Critical Look At Stephen King's Epic." It's almost 200 pages long. Hope to have some interesting things to share from it next week. Love its second page: "Dedication To Larry Underwood, for showing that it’s never too late to knit a spine and Stand."

It looks promising. It's supposed to compare The Stand to its inspiration, Lord of The Rings, among other things.
I'll share what I find out next week.
Same Bat-Time. Same Bat-Channel.
Enjoyed it immensely, gals!
Night, all.

We begin tonight's discussion with chapter 61, and the story of the judge.
King starts off Book III with lyrics from these songs:

Hey, Jen, I have to apologize, too. I just got home from work, and it just now hit me that tonight is Saturday. D'oh!
If I'd thought about it earlier I could have warned you that I was going to be late tonight.
Anyway, I'm here now, so I'll hang around and see if you make it back on.
Sorry, again.

I am at my Mom's house, still. If I do make the discussion tonight, I will be late. Just letting you guys know.
Edit: I'm just letting you guys know, I do not feel well, so I will not be joining in the discussion tonight. I will be going to bed early. I hope to join you guys next week.

I wanted to start with a short overview of chapter 60 the final chapter in book 2
The four (Larry, stu,Ralph and glen) have headed west Also lets not forget Kojack which I must admit I was comforted somehow by simply knowing Kojack was going along
Fran is still highly upset but accepting too And at one point says shed like to go inside with Lucy And king says they began to wait To me that phrase says so much like they one with us the readers as we too waited to see how the journey/book would play out

Thanks for that wrap-up.
That final scene of the girls beginning their long wait was a good way of ending book II, because we'll be with the Las Vegas camp for a good part of book III.
And this is the section where we begin to see that not all is hunky-dory there, that things are beginning to go wrong in a way that doesn't make The Dark Man happy at all.
Somehow Flagg knows the general area that the judge will be arriving in. Not only that, but the judge's general description as well as that of his vehicle.

I have a little more to mention on chapter 61
I feel like this is the end of everything, when Larry said this I feel he described my feelings accurately But then stu spoke Do you dog faces want to live forever? And I feel that summed up my hopes for all of them Because I hoped they would all live forever

Sadly though we lose someone dearly loved in chapter 61 and a sad way for him to go It broke my heart to see the judge murdered and all I kept thinking when I knew the judge was right about it being close to the en for him was if Larry were there they would be an unbeatable team

And I feel that summed up my hopes for all of them Because I hoped they would all live forever "The end of everything" gives the right amount of foreboding, plus it's a nice play on words, since we're moving into the end of the book. That line 'you dogfaces want to live forever?' is one you hear in a lot of war movies when men are going into battle, often against great odds. I like that the guys are able to find a few moments of lighter banter, too, like Glen's great line, "Chapter 43: The Bald-Headed Sociologist Dons His Sweat-Band." I laughed at that one.

I so love all the extras you bring into the book club I wouldn't have known about men saying that before going to war thank you for that! Yes it does get you moving right along with them making you feel you are traveling too and if course in a way we are I have a quick question concerning breaks like that in books when you come to another part in a book where the two parts are sectioned off with blank pages like it was between book two and book three what do you do? And yes I love that line in chapter 60 I kept rereading it again and again!!!!
