S1.E1 Pilot February 26, 2018 Three suburban moms rob a supermarket to provide for their families, but they find themselves in hot water when they learn it's run by a local gang.
I promised to talk about "Good Girls" but I didn't want to start a thread unless someone else was watching.
It's a really good show. Two "Gilmore Girls" connections but I'm not going to go searching for that show's thread. Lauren Graham's daughter from "Parenthood" is one of the leads. The husband of another lead was Mike's partner on "Mike and Molly", whose Molly was Sookie. He was a cop there but wants to be a cop here.
Annie is a cashier at a grocery store and in a situation like the women who are the subject of #Metoo. She points out to her friends that the store has nearly been robbed several times. Her daughter's father wants custody and she can't afford to fight. And the daughter has such short hair I thought she was a boy. That's another potential issue entirely.
Beth's husband has a car dealer and he does silly commercials with a pretty girl who works for him. And that's not all she does for him. And the family is in danger of losing everything because of his bad decisions. There are four kids and they don't know.
Ruby has a daughter who needs oxygen and is always tied to a tank that she has to keep with her. She sat in a waiting room with lots of people and wanted to know how long it would be. When she finally did get to talk to the doctor, he was distracted and didn't even know the girl's name. And the treatment was very expensive.
It was Annie that came up with the idea of actually robbing her store. They wore masks. Unfortunately, one witness saw a tattoo. That will be a problem. Plus, there was a lot more money than they expected. Someone else wants that money back, and he has goons. This will get interesting as they have to find a way to pay him back.
Ruby's daughter is doing fine. As they visited her new doctor, everything was quiet and the doctor was really good and focused. The husband who is in the police academy thinks their GoFundMe campaign was successful.

The pilot was very good. There was plenty of humor to go along with the drama. The ladies are in a lot more trouble than they bargained for.

Comments on Mo Money Mo Problems
Good Girls is a good example of a comedy-drama. There is a good mix of dramatic scenes and humorous moments.
I thought Boomer was dead, but I think Annie’s peen text was a good solution to the perv problem. I thought they would eventually have to turn him over to Rio and let him handle Boomer, but that probably will not happen now.
I like Rio (Manny Montana) in everything I have seen him in. (Although he is a drug dealer on this show, I am glad he is not always stereotyped as one. I like his beautiful voice even when he is threatening.) I nodded in agreement when he said the two-two for two meal deal was more expensive than ala carte because I have calculated the same thing. Rio’s math lesson with Kenny was funny. He said if the person had a gun, none of his marbles would have been taken.
The e-Bay solution was not stupid if they had handled the transactions themselves. It was downright insulting to expect a drug dealer to sell anything on e-Bay. I did not know whether to laugh or pray for them.
The note to Ruby said they ate all of the lasagna so now she cannot leave them. That was sweet.
I really enjoyed watching it, but I had to delay watching some of my other favorites.

I haven't had time and even if I had I would have watched "Scorpion".
Also, I saw a newspaper article about the show which I need to remember to find.
Edit: Forgot to look and the library I go to has trouble with the subscription, so if it wasn't on that paper's web site, I can't find it now.

The second episode was a real letdown but I will keep watching.
The Boomer problem was solved too easily so that was one less incentive to come back for more episodes.
The Scottish voice was Craig Ferguson, not Sean Connery. The speeded up voice was so funny.
The drug dealer shouldn't have broken anything because it could have actually been valuable.

Borderline
There were pros and cons, but pros first. Their field trip went better than expected. The guy who kept brushing them off got more than he bargained for. I wondered why all three of the ladies needed to go but that added to the humor/drama. The wrapping paper was a clever way to smuggle money across the border.
I enjoyed Ruby testifying in church and making things awkward for the woman who lied about making the donation for Sara’s healthcare.
In the conversation between Rio and the black man, Rio said they are at maximum capacity and they cannot take on more work like somebody wants. When Beth demanded to hear Rio say they were done, I noticed some chemistry between them. I rewound their scenes to make sure, and yes, there is something there. I cannot wait to see how that plays out.
For twenty years, I have wondered what the tennis shoes over the power lines meant and none of my acquaintances knew. I liked the exchange when Rio came to Beth and said the pearls were a nice touch, but usually people put Jordans over the power lines. Beth replied she only had pumps.
I did not enjoy the foolishness at the dealership when they were trying to take a car. Also, Boomer saw them.
Annie syncing her phone to a stolen car is what I consider stupid comedy and it is not funny. I keep thinking Annie’s child is a boy, but they do keep saying girl. The fiasco with the lady from Child Welfare Services (or whatever they called it) did not amuse me either. Right now, Annie is my least favorite character, below Boomer.

I wondered why all three women went too. Annie got in trouble for not being there when the Child Welfare Services person visited. And she caused that mess with her phone too. But the fact they had to dispose of the car was funny. Still, I like Annie the best out of the main characters.
I couldn't believe they stole that car the way they did. It would have been better if they hadn't made themselves so visible.
I liked how Ruby handled the woman who pretended to be her benefactor. I don't understand why the woman would do that. I also don't get why the woman was supposed to do more for Ruby and her husband.
I missed whatever Rio and the black man did.
The wrapping paper was an interesting way to hide what they were doing. Annie should have known to be more careful about counterfeiting given what she knew. She got in trouble for that in the first episode.
I am feeling better about the show, but not as good as I did before the first episode.
I hate how I scroll down in posts and emails and don't realize I'm still not at the end.

But the fact they had to dispose of the car was funny. Still, I like Annie the best out of the main characters. Nooo! Now, I will not want to say what I really think about the character. I agree because that is how they attracted Boomer’s attention. Ruby said the woman had been interested in the husband for years and made the claim to get his attention. The woman was not supposed to do more for Ruby and her husband, but Ruby said all that to retaliate against the woman. Now, if the woman does not babysit for “date night”, it will make the woman look bad. I thought it might be significant later on, so I rewound that part and listened carefully. The summary above is all they talked about. It was difficult to hear because I was focused on what Beth was saying to Rio while his back was turned to her. Just curious…what did you want them to focus on to make it more appealing?

Nooo! Now, I will not want to say what I really think about the character. I focus on how much they entertain me and it's not always the case that doing bad things changes that. Ruby said the woman had been interested in the husband for years and made the claim to get his attention. The woman was not supposed to do more for Ruby and her husband, but Ruby said all that to retaliate against the woman. Now, if the woman does not babysit for “date night”, it will make the woman look bad. I must have missed that she was interested in him. I get why Ruby did what she did but what I really meant was how do the others in the church interpret that? It looks strange that she will do even more as opposed to getting rewarded. Just curious…what did you want them to focus on to make it more appealing? At this point I would rather laugh than be depressed. There are shows where I wouldn't mind not laughing, but this one isn't one of them. I once mentioned "Designated Survivor" using Lyor for comic relief and since I don't like him, I obviously don't need it.

Atom Bomb
I enjoyed most of the episode. It is good Jane was more curious than alarmed that a man was sleeping in her bed. I was amused when Rio was sitting on the steps and negotiating with the ladies. He had a genuine smile on his face as he dropped the stacks of money.
When the man finally awakened, he did not know where he was, but he found the gun they had taken off of him. He borrowed one of their cars and took off. He later returned it, but the rear of the vehicle looked as if it had multiple bullet holes in it. He surprisingly seemed like a nice guy after he calmed down and Annie took him to Sadie’s school to teach the bullies a lesson.
Rio came to the house during Kenny’s birthday party and expressed displeasure that Beth did not see the job through.
I enjoyed those scenes, but there was some stuff I either did not like or thought did not make sense.
Why would Annie let Boomer deliver the cake to the party? That was stupid.
Annie and Gregg argued during most of their daughter’s debate speech.
Beth did not question the veracity of her husband’s claim that he had cancer.
I am not going to enjoy their attempts to launder money because too many things can (and probably will) go wrong.

That was pretty scary that a man was in a little girl's bed, but even worse was the fact he was bleeding. They did mention the bed will need a new mattress, or maybe the girl can sleep on the floor. This reminds me one episode of "The Mick" I saw this week. I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard. ben wet the bed at a sleepover at a friend's house.
I can't believe Annie got away with letting that man teach the bullies a lesson. People aren't supposed to be able to just walk into a school.\
I didn't see any reason to question the husband having cancer.
Plenty can go wrong with laundering money. That's where the fun comes from.
I know what it is I don't like about the show. Too much of the humor is dark and I'm not seeing it as funny when it is the humor that makes me want to watch.

I didn't see any reason to question the husband having cancer. She is married to a liar. Used car salesmen are notorious liars AND he has been lying to her for a very long time. He questioned her about seeing another man, then suddenly announces he has cancer. That is why she should have questioned the veracity of his claim. I would not have believed him for a second.

Taking Care of Business
SEASON 1, EPISODE 5 • NEW 3/26/18, 10:01 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC • DVS
Beth struggles to keep her new business separate from her home life; Annie's loneliness leads her to an ill-advised one-night stand; Ruby doubles down on her lies to Stan; FBI Agent Jim Turner follows up on Boomer's tip about the women.

Beth is very convincing when she makes an effort. She went into a lot of detail to convince the FBI Agent she had a one night stand with Rio. I enjoyed it when Rio suggested to Beth that she tell the agent they were lovers. I thought it was funny, but also the only plausible simple answer. However, if Boomer keeps talking to the agent, he will probably mention he saw him at the birthday party which would make it obvious Beth lied.
Of course, Annie was the one who messed up, but the ladies found the receipt. I did not expect Annie to return to the store to get the guy in trouble, but he deserved it.

Beth did a great job with the FBI agent. I came up with the idea of an affair, and she went all the way with that story.
We didn't see Annie return those TVs but I thought that would have been the time for her to punish the salesman. I was pleased at how she did it. I didn't see that his wife suspected anything.
You have to wonder about the people working in those stores dealing with all that cash. I thought they were sunk when the one store had that machine.
I took a close look at the credits and noticed one store was called Cloud 9. That's the store on "Superstore".
Amazingly, what I liked best about the episode was not the funny scenes but Ruby and her family, and the girls supporting Ruby. I liked seeing her husband in uniform but I'm used to his being a veteran cop.

The secret shopper ruse worked better than I thought it would even though one of Annie’s shoppers let the goods get stolen.
It is amusing when the ladies try to understand the jargon Rio uses and he does not translate it for them. They have to figure it out. Rio is probably the only drug dealer on TV that I really like.
My view: although I do not like Beth getting them in deeper with the drug dealer without asking the other ladies, I like the solutions she offers.
I thought it was foolish for Annie to tell Boomer’s mother about the robbery, but I liked her giving the lady a replacement Hummel.
Ruby’s explanation to Stan mended the rift between them. However, if Stan talks about the unlikely amount of money his wife makes as a secret shopper, it will draw attention.
Boomer is resentful and now he has planted drugs in Annie’s locker. He was not wearing gloves so his fingerprints should be all over the drugs.
My favorite lines were Beth’s to her husband: “And let Fred go back to his babies. I am not afraid of the dark.”

I didn't see any reason not to trust Beth's husband, and seeing them at the doctor was proof. Until he said something that tells us the doctor is in on it.
I liked how Annie went to Boomer's mother. She seemed genuinely remorseful and tried to make up for what she did. She was lucky not to get in trouble.
I liked how Ruby explained her activities to Stan, and how her boss finally realized how much he needed her. She was entitled to say something to that boy and his mother.
Beth is good at finding her way out of situations. Was this the week she explained Rio's presence to the FBI agent? She was really good when she did that.

I thought Beth's husband was lying to her before we knew he was. I also thought the doctor was crooked. Perhaps it is my personal experience of being around men who lie to their spouses or the plot of this story, but his lies seem obvious to me. I agree Annie seemed genuinely remorseful. I was also glad Ruby's boss realized how much he needed her, but I doubt she will return. Beth talked to the FBI agent the prior week.

Special Sauce
SEASON 1, EPISODE 7 • NEW
4/9/18, 10:01 PM ON WBALDT 11 • TV-14 • STEREO • CC • DVS

The ladies were raking in the dough and celebrating. Then one of the secret shoppers ruined it for them by not actually shopping. Rio flashed some guns and acted in a threatening manner, but he did not hurt them. Beth refused to tell him who the woman was. When they confronted the woman, Annie blurted out that she gave them back the same money; then the woman blackmailed them.
Ruby’s husband probably recognized Rio on the murder board and he looked very worried.
Annie and her ex were intimate and that will probably cause some problems for him at home.
I hope they can get the false drug charges dropped because Annie does not deserve to lose her child because of Boomer’s pettiness.
Eta: Ruby's story about her boss and the special sauce made me lose all respect for him. Using her arm to stir the sauce was a health violation and demeaning to Ruby. She did it because her family really needed the money.

The woman who didn't shop seemed so nice despite all she was going through. But then she found out they were cheating her and she was going to get even. This could be a problem. At least they didn't send Rio after her.
I didn't notice that Ruby's husband saw Rio. I did think they were spending a lot of money they didn't have. I've heard people making fun of those who spend large amounts of money for very little food.
I hope Boomer's actions don't cause Annie trouble but there seems to be no way for her to get out of this except blackmail. I wish Annie had not done what she did with her ex.
I hated hearing Ruby's story about the sauce. I wish they had never included that.

I do not know if Ruby's husband saw Rio, but Rio would stand out from the other guests. If he was not worried about Rio's image on the wall, I cannot guess why he looked that way.
I feel the same way and wish they had not included the special sauce story.
