Right off in chapter 62 we see that the people on the west are busy Flagg knew about the judge right down to specifics They are studying up on jets and they have a few that know how to fly.

The scene with Dayna was particularly horrific for me, because Randall Flagg first made it seem like he was sending her back to deliver a message, and like her, for just a second we allowed ourselves to believe it.

There's a bit of troublesome thought at the possibility of a spy in the free zone
And then even more troublesome the theory of Flagg just knowing which is chilling enough within itself

That is one of the horrors of Flagg but the committee made a good choice in sending dayna she's strong stubborn and willing to stand up against terrifying odds I thought she was brave

I don't think that was the case, though, because after Harold he had naught, right?

I don't know if I would have the strength to take myself out, like Dayna did, on a shard of glass. She and the Judge were selfless and beyond brave in the way they faced death and ultimate evil.

I love the way this chapter is told, fauna gives you the full account of what she sees knows feels but she does it confidently so instead of complete fear I feel radiating off these pages a knowledge that it's a bad situation but her faith strength and bravery comfort me letting me know the free zone needn't worry things will go as planned

And what strange names are attributed to Flagg but I feel whatever they call him even those in the west are getting the basic knowledge that Flagg is an embodiment of all evil

I think that in the beginning of the chapter, when they are calling him 'RF' instead of his scarier names it's a sign of how far he has fallen amongst his own people.
In radio 'RF' is a distortion in the broadcast signal. Something that causes interference.

And also as dayna points out on pg 932 "If he had known about the Judge didn't it stand to reason that he knew about her?" What a scary thought, and I think again that displays the courage and bravery that dayna has because that simple terrifying thought surely would have driven anyone else out but that just goes to show the kind of smart thinking that went into choosing dayna

Very interesting moon and isnt that exactly what Flagg is doing Perhaps after he has those people in the west under his thumb he shows his true self and even the oblivious people in the west can't help but see and know the chilling truth of rf

The final scene in the chapter lets us know that things aren't going so well in the West:
"First the Judge, now the woman, and neither one had talked. Neither had been unmarked, as he had asked. . . It was hard for them to believe. The wind blew hard all night."

In terms of the story she had to see Tom. Otherwise she wouldn't have had any secrets for Flagg to ferret out, and wouldn't have had to sacrifice herself.
At that point we also needed to know that Tom Cullen had made it there, so it was beautifully (and tragically) constructed, I thought.

That's right It was beautiful I especially liked the lines "That face looking up at her That wide smiling wondering face"
It spoke straight to my heart of toms innocence And in the movie I loved when Flagg said he couldn't figure out who the other spy was all he kept seeing was the moon what a beautiful secret connection that only dayna and other free zoners would understand

Darn, you're making me anxious to get to the mini-series now. It's been ages since I've seen it. Hopefully we can do a synchro-watch after we finish the novel.
So, chapter 63 next week? I'll post my days off soon as I get my schedule.

I'm here, and figured I'd just go ahead and post, whether you're able to make it tonight or not.
As you said, chapter 63 is very short--just two pages--and serves to give us another glimpse of Tom Cullen in Las Vegas. The little boy Dinny loves Tom, probably because on one level they are a lot alike. When Tom takes his leave, saying he's got to get to his home, I wondered if that meant 'time to go back to Boulder.'
Then we see a character we've not seen in quite a while, Julie Lawry, appear and can see that she has put two and two together and knows that Tom Cullen is the spy. Uh-oh.
